A metro train family whose design is built around density because its path is entirely its own.
Overview
Metropolis is a train family built for urban metro lines. What separates a metro from a tram is that it does not share its path: a closed, segregated line allows signalling to be automated and headways to shorten.
That separation also shapes the interior. Space given to standing passengers, wide doors and walk-through carriages all aim to cut seconds spent at the platform. A metro line's capacity is set by door processes rather than seat count.
Driverless operation is the natural consequence of a segregated line. The engineering challenge there is not driving the train but designing platform doors and emergency scenarios together with it.
