Overview

The ASD Tug 2811 is a tugboat built for harbour and coastal operations. A tug's work is force rather than speed: bringing huge ships alongside, turning them in narrow channels and, when needed, stopping them.

The decisive measure for these vessels is bollard pull — the force that can be applied once the line is taut. Hull form, propulsion arrangement and engine power are all shaped around that single number.

An azimuth thruster arrangement means the thruster can rotate about its own axis, so force can be directed anywhere. A tug's ability to turn within its own length in a confined space is what really separates it from a conventional ruddered layout.
