Fiat Panda
A small hatchback and an example of simplicity as a design decision rather than a shortfall.
Overview
The Panda is a small car aimed at extracting the most usefulness from the least material. The first generation's flat glass and easily removed seat covers lowered production cost while also simplifying repair.
The approach is a defence of "sufficiency" in car design: rather than covering every function, covering well the functions daily use actually demands.
With four-wheel drive the model showed unexpected capability in mountain villages and on snowy roads. That being small and light contributes to off-road ability is a fact often skipped in power-focused debate.
