Pipistrel Microlight
An ultralight aircraft: aviation's lowest entry threshold and the first real proving ground for electric flight.
Overview
The microlight class consists of light aircraft defined by maximum take-off weight. The weight limit is legal as well as technical: being light means a simpler licensing and registration regime.
The class became the first practical field for electric flight. While battery energy density is insufficient for large aircraft, it can be enough for short training flights — choosing a mission that fits the limit rather than pushing it.
Lightness also means sensitivity: wind and turbulence are felt far more distinctly. Piloting skill becomes more directly visible than in heavier aircraft.
