Overview
The S-92 is a medium-heavy helicopter widely used for offshore transport and search and rescue. Flying over water demands a different safety regime than over land: twin engines, flotation systems and an emergency egress arrangement are mandatory.
On these missions, range is tied directly to how far the platform lies from shore. The trade between fuel capacity and passenger count is remade for every flight plan.
Offshore operation also hardens the maintenance regime. Salt-air corrosion is a source of wear absent from land operations, and it shortens service intervals.
