Overview

The Octavia Combi uses the estate layout, extending a sedan's roofline all the way to the tailgate. The gain is not only volume but the shape of that volume: a flat floor and upright rear glass make the same litres more usable.

This body style lost share to the rise of SUVs, even though it offers the same interior space with a lower centre of gravity and less aerodynamic drag. It is a common example of a choice driven by perception rather than engineering.

The model is known for offering above-class interior space by sharing a Volkswagen group platform. Platform sharing is the most visible demonstration of how cost is distributed in the car industry.
