Overview

The Model 3 is a sedan with a battery-electric drivetrain. In electric cars the design centres on the battery pack rather than an engine: spread across the floor, the pack lowers the centre of gravity and frees up cabin volume.

Where the model diverges is in its interface decisions. Most physical controls have moved to a central screen, which lowers production cost and offers a cockpit that software can change, but makes use that relies on muscle memory harder.

Range in an electric vehicle is not a question about the car alone. The density and speed of charging infrastructure turn the same battery into very different experiences, so choosing the car is really choosing an ecosystem.
