Vespa Primavera
A steel-bodied scooter continuing the form of urban mobility invented in post-war Italy.
Overview
A Vespa is defined by a steel monocoque in which there is no separate frame: the body itself carries the loads. That structure produces a silhouette unlike a motorcycle and a seating position with the feet placed forward.
The scooter layout's urban advantage is simple: small wheels, automatic transmission and a low step-through. Getting on requires no high swing of the leg, and being usable in everyday clothes is the main reason the type spread.
Small wheels are less forgiving on broken surfaces, and limited suspension travel shapes ride comfort. It is a deliberate trade made on the assumption of city use.
