Overview
Viking Grace is a ferry carrying both passengers and vehicles. What defines a ferry is that it turns the ship into a piece of road: vehicles drive aboard under their own power and continue their journey on the far shore.
The vessel is an early example of a passenger ship using liquefied natural gas as fuel. That choice is as much a legal decision as a technical one in enclosed seas where exhaust emissions are tightly regulated.
For passenger ships on short routes, turnaround time sits at the centre of the design. Ramp arrangement, vehicle-deck flow and boarding points directly determine how many crossings a ship can make in a day.
