Yamaha WaveRunner
A personal watercraft: a small boat driven by a water jet rather than a propeller, able to work in shallow water.
Overview
WaveRunner is a boat name in the personal watercraft class. What distinguishes these craft is how they are driven: instead of a propeller, water drawn from beneath the hull is accelerated by a pump and expelled astern.
Because a water jet leaves no exposed spinning propeller, it operates more safely in shallow water and near swimmers. In exchange, cutting the throttle removes steering along with thrust — a known cause of accidents specific to the class, which newer models carry systems to offset.
On small craft, balance is established with the rider; weight transfer is the real instrument of turning. That is what makes the experience resemble a motorcycle and shapes the learning curve.
